Lots of employees at four General Motors crops slated to shut this year are dealing with a painful alternative: Take the corporate’s supply to work at one other manufacturing unit — probably thousands of miles away — even when meaning abandoning their households, their houses and every part they’ve constructed. Or keep and threat dropping their excessive-paying jobs.
The automaker says almost all of its blue-collar U.S. employees with jobs in jeopardy have work ready for them. Many from the focused factories in Michigan, Ohio, and Maryland have already got voluntarily transferred to crops within the Midwest and South, not desirous of taking an opportunity.
Others are nonetheless agonizing over the choice, not sure whether or not to promote their properties or grasp onto hopes that their vegetation may reopen. The automaker says the modifications introduced in November are wanted to chop prices and put cash into new autos. The plant closings nonetheless have to be negotiated with the union, giving staff a sliver of hope.
